Who else has fond memories of having to wake up at sparrow-fart to go to Epping market and buy veggies for half of Observatory???

Martin Duys: That is classic! I remember very clearly heading off to Epping market early one morning in a Beetle with Sue Soal and Belinda Borries and a wad of cash. I also remember driving home with a pile of cabbages on my lap, and a scarf of carrots around my neck. We spent hours dividing up all the veggies into beautifully arranged piles on the long veranda at Roughmore Rd. By late afternoon when the last crowd arrived to pick up their veggies, I think we were unanimous in our decision that it just wasn't worth it, and that was the end of the veggie collective for us. One hangover from the collective was that I read somewhere that you could make a very nutritious soup from all the cutoffs and peels from vegetables that you would normally discard. After persuading my housemates that it was a great idea, we eventually settled down to a an incredibly bland broth of carrot tops, potato peels, parsley leaves and a bit of salt and pepper. That experiment too was never repeated.

Paula Hathorn: I remember waking up too late to get to the Epping market and cheating and going to the Farida Omar at the Salt River Market instead with either Barbs or Nic. We then had to pretend that we'd gone to Epping.
